KSDK Smashes Local Competition In July

Ratings are out for the St. Louis TV stations for July and it was KSDK by a mile. The network won the morning, 5, 6, and 10 p.m. broadcasts by an average of 2.5 ratings points. KTVI, the Fox affiliate in St. Louis, came in second in the morning, but finished third in all three evening newscasts. KMOV, the CBS affiliate, finished a distant third in the morning before closing the gap during the 5, 6, and 10 broadcasts. KSDK is the NBC affiliate in St. Louis.

As an interesting side note, St. Louis's ABC affiliate does not have a news product.

If KY3 hadn't taken over KSPR's operation, I don't think Springfield's ABC affiliate would have a news product either. I'm glad things are looking up for KSPR, though.

As for the St. Louis ratings, I wish Fox 2's ratings would've been higher. We lived in St. Louis from November through June, and their station by far kicked the competition's butt with the best news coverage. That's just my opinion, but anyone with a brain can figure that out. Just one more way to prove how flawed those ratings are.

I don't disagree with the fact that ratings don't always necessarily equate quality. I have always contended that KSHB in Kansas City (the NBC affiliate) has had a solid evening newscast, but it just can't seem to find a dominant audience. Again, mine is only an opinion also.

But to have a major market with any news on one of the "big 3" is crazy in this day and age. I would think they could get some ratings right off the bat if you started one just based off of some of the hang overs of ABC's stellar shows like Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, and LOST.
